Q: What new features does the Flaming Cliffs 2.0 upgrade add?
A: The following features are added:
- Runs under DirectX 9C
- Improved Mission Editor with trigger system
- New terrain area to include much of Georgia. This will be same map
as used in DCS: Black Shark. As such the Crimea has been replaced with
the addition of Georgia.
- More detailed terrain to include more ground objects, larger
forests, and higher resolution elevation data
- Improved clouds
- High resolution airfield textures
- Improved multiplayer system with embedded game browser
- More robust online cheating prevention
- New and improved menu system
- Numerous new, highly detailed ground units including infantry
- More accurate flight data that controls flight performance of
player-controlled aircraft. This is true for both Russian and U.S.
aircraft
- Improved flight models for all artificial intelligence (AI)
controlled aircraft - New, more realistic G-tolerance modeling
- Limited 6 DOF cockpits that move up, down and sideways according to
maneuvering
- Heads Up Dispay (HUD) now modeled as collimated and focused to
infinity for all player-controlled aircraft
- New and highly-detailed Su-25 model
- Advanced ballistics are implemented for all flyable aircraft,
including ricochets of AP rounds - F-15C locked target IFF indication
- More realistic ranges, seeker guidance and fuzes for air-to-air
missiles
- More realistic electronic countermeasure operation and performance
- New and improved sound engine
- New radio message voice-overs

All info from their site at:

http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?end_pos=1671&scr=default

Personally I will by it for the DCS:BS MP compability and improved
mission editor that now support triggers etc.

Thanks CJ, so now owners of this and Black Shark can play on the same
MP server (assume everyone would need both FC2 and BS)?

Sounds good if that's the case.

Yes. If you for only fly BS you won't need FC2 but if you are like me
and like to switch to fastmovers now and then you need both!

DCS:BS are waiting for a compability patch and it should be here
shortly.

Thanks!
Already bought my copy yesterday. Very nice upgrade and seems good so
far but haven't played it much yet, I'm getting better frame rates than
I did in FC 1.02 which is a nice bonus.

Must you have Lock on and flaming cliffs installed previously?

No but I thought you did and made the mistake of instaling FC2 into the
Lomac folder but all it needs to see is that you have Lomac installed
and you install FC2 into its own folder. After that you can uninstall
Lomac.

I fixed mine by moving FC2 folder out of Lomac folder and then
uninstalling Lomac and FC and then puting FC2 folder back into empty
Lomac folder. Just tested it and it runs fine.

Hopefully the triggers are fixed for MP missions. I found a bug to do
with unspawned player aircraft firing triggers with the release
version of Black Shark and reported it. It didn't seem to be addressed
in the patch.

Due to lack of time I haven't touched th ME yet in BS/FC2 but lets
hope they fixed the trigger issue you mention!

Thanks,
I don't know why (I played FC to death and it has nothing really new)
but I've bought a copy. Some others from the virtual squad that I fly
with have also so we should at least get some MP time from it.

Hmmm, I wonder if I can have the A10's mav screen on a second monitor
- that would be nice.

Well that looks like wishfull thinking (well, I can't see how to do it
anyway).

It looks like a straight port with even the borked A10 analog TDC
making a comeback. Fortunately, the old solution of mapping the
ministick to mouse, and setting the mouse axes to the TDC still works
a treat (although it would have been good for it to have been fixed).
It runs smoothly, although the fps still bogs down during cluster
strikes (I wish ED would make eliminating stutters of any kind their
main engine priority). The sound engine seems to need work as sounds
didn't always seem to play (eg: flares while sidewinder selected, gear
retraction). The Black Shark allergy to non-joystick MS Sidewinder
products seems to have been fixed (thank goodness). I'm not sure I
like the ECM warmup time - is it realistic or just a hack to prevent
abuse during MP? If the later, then the issue should be dealt with in
a different manner.

The new campaign looks good, with some nice use of triggers to make
the war seem less sterile. The MP seems to work well from my limited
testing - let's hope that everyone can see the refueling boom this
time. When they patch BS to run with it I hope that they allow the BS
in the Blue coalition as, in the game, there's no equivalent aircraft
on that side yet. A helo acting as forward air controller for a bunch
of A10s would be nice. What would be even better is if we could place
markers on the map ALA Armed Assault.

The title definitely has attracted the interest of the aerobatics team
in our online squad and I'd sy that it'll get a bit of play from the
rest of us too. After a patch to fix up the niggles it should be a
good, modern FC. If there are decent online campaigns for both sides
and various aircraft then it should have some longevity.
