Discussion:
Saitek X35T gameport only on USB hub

Folks,
I ebayed an x35T combo, and though I had read 15 reviews which said
it sported gameport & USB connections, I failed to ask about the
connections. This fool now has a gameport only version, and my Intel
board with integrated sound has no port.

I'm getting limited functionality by running a gameport to USB
converter, (anyone know if I should use normal or CH mode on this?).
If I double my investment with a cheapo PCI sound card with gameport,
will I have any love?

I'm running XP, so I have no idea if the drivers will help with this
(looking at saitkhelp at SimHQ). I even have to by adapters for the
keyboard inputs!

Anyone have an used PCI soundcard with gameport to offer to an
embarrased Ebayer?

ARGGGGH!

If you not out of slots, you could buy a PCI Game Port card. If I
remember correctly, Cyberguys has them, and at any rate it shouldn't
be *too* hard to find one.

BTW, I hope the pots in yours fare better than the ones in mine
did....

You may get more functionality, but you'll never get the full
functionality of a USB controller. No matter what you pass it through,
there will never be more pin-outs than the limited number available on a
gameport controller. Perhaps the best course is to chalk up to tuition
fees for a lesson learned and buy what you really need, a USB-only
controller setup, because this one will bled you dry and leave you sad.
No software will make it as good as a real USB controller. Maybe you
could sell this on eBay and recoup your investment?

My X35T (with only a gameport connector) is connected directly with the X36F.
And the X36F has a Gameport and USB connector.

I bought the X35T and X36F combined as the Saitek X36

No offense meant, but I'm not sure what information you're trying to
convey here. If you're saying "It worked for me.", good on ya! (Not
intended sarcastically). If you're having the same problem, what OS
are you using?

Yes, it works fine here,

but what i mean is that maybe you need the X36F if you want
connect the X35T on USB.

Ahhh! I've always heard the set referred to as X35. My X35F (the
stick) has gameport only. I have it working as a 6 button stick w/POV
& throttle.

I'm getting no button function from the throttle, and the programming
software for the gameport drivers from sourceforge hasn't been
helpful. If anyone with experience on this, let me know.

I have a sorta related question:

will these old throttle & joystick work with windows 7? x36f and x35T

If they might, where might I order the adapter that that would connect from the x36f two connectors (a 5 pin circular connector,I have an adapter that converts it to a 6 pin circular connector, either of those two TO usb? and also coming out of the x36f is a 7 over eight pin(the 7 pins are parallel to the eight pins TO a usb? I used them on a windows 98 computer. If they might work on XP, I saved that old machine for gaming also. Or maybe my best bet to use those old throttle and joystick is to make room to set up my old windows 98 just for flight sim. I have flight sim 2002 and janes ww2 fighters, all old games. Is their an economical way to go windows 7, 64 bit and run these old games with a fairly economical newer throttle joystick combo? thanks!

I remember trying to use Gameport controls on my Dell Dimension back in '05, and while they worked, they never worked quite the way I wanted. You'd probably save yourself a lot of trouble and just get USB controls. I got a Saitek X45 bundle - throttle control and stick - on eBay years ago for under $50. It worked just as I wanted it to as soon as I plugged it in. I basically through away a lot of gameport controls, but it was worth it now that I had something that worked seamlessly with my version of windows. That was years ago on a pair of used controllers that still work.
