Amazon doesn't have it, and I'd rather not download it from Steam,
etc...

Any suggestions?

I think at the moment, it's only available as a download from Eagle
Dynamics. There should be a box release soon though.

Thanks Scatter. It got a very good review somewhere. Maybe PC Gamer
or Gamespot. I forgot. But the review said it will take some
dedication! I don't know if I have that in me any more. I used to
back in the Falcon and Janes days.

It's an ED sim. They *always* take significant dedication to get into. :-)

Most of the fun comes from mastering and deploying the systems rather than your
involvement in the world around you. Unless something's changed in this release. I
doubt it.

That's true for the DCS stuff and the su25t but LOMAC (and the other
aircraft in FC) was pretty easy to get into. Even the original flanker
wasn't heavy on systems - it was a sterile experience though.

You're welcome PW, it's an easy aircraft to fly but it does take a while to
become proficient with the systems. I fly multiplayer with a pretty relaxed
squad and am slowing getting there.

I should try the gaming mode some time to see what that's like. in Black
Shark it was actually pretty good (I flew it with the relaxed flight model
with some mates after a long hiatus - the BS flight model was pretty tricky
and doing this made the experience much more enjoyable).

And now DCS A-10c is available via steam download if people prefer that to
getting it from ED directly.

Great review in this month's PC Gamer (US), but I can't find where to
purchase the boxed version here. Amazon lists it but it's not
available.

Well, I just got back from an Air Show with the Blue Angels which
included a pair of A-10 Warthogs. My wife and I had a nice chat with
one of the pilots who was unaware of this sim but said he would check
it out.

I immediately of course wanted to purchase this sim and take the time
to learn it (I wish I could afford the Thrustmaster controllers too!).

But the boxed version is still not out and I will not purchase this if
it's not on a DVD. Besides, it would probably take me days to
download it with my internect connection!

That is for the knowledge of whoever is left reading this newsgroup!

I think there are a few of us still here, lurking. But I'll be honest and say that
although I bought A-10 in the recent Steam Sale (when it finally appeared on the UK
Steam site), I just can't "feel the love" for ED any more. I fired it up, thought
"this all looks very familiar" and that was it I'm afraid.

Part of that is the fact that if I'm paying for an iRacing subscription then I tend
to feel guilty if I *don't* drive it. So my hardcore gaming itch is scratched by
trying to keep a car on the track rather than an aircraft in the air. And my desire
to learn complex cockpit systems has definitely subsided as I get older.

I still dream about having a really absorbing game wrapped around a hardcore flight
sim. We have all the systems fidelity we could ever need, but... but why dream
about things which will never happen? :-)

Hmmm, not sure what you mean about that Andrew.

I hear ya! I installed Rise of Flight and still haven't taken the
time to learn it. I guess it was the Blue Angel airshow high that I
got this weekend to make me want to buy A-10. But, I love the A-10s!

Well, maybe if you invest $600 (or whatever it costs) in the A-10
throttle and stick system you just may (or have to)! :-)
