Falcon 4.0 on Windows 7?

I thought Falcon 4.0 was going to run on my new system with Windows 7 because
the initial screens showed just fine but I hadn't actually tried flying. Now I
find that after starting the sim, choosing my options and setup and all then
clicking on Instant Flight, the graphics go to hell. Anyone else have trouble
with Windows 7? This is both on an onstall of the original disk, no patches or
anything. Thi is my original disk from when Falcon, 4.0 Allied Force fist came
out. I tried installing a patch, don't remember which one except that it was
the latest patch, and still no joy. Should I have installed earlier patches
first?

System is:
Intel i7 930 cpu
12Gb tri-channel DDR3 1333 SDRAM
ATI Radeon HD 5770 video card
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
Plenty of disk space for installation.

Thanks for any help. I'd really like to go flying again.
