Cracks me up... people complaining about no American (US) planes in a

I blame it on Hollywood. I'm sure America won the Battle of Britain just before
capturing that Enigma machine.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this, despite the daft name. In fact I even
broke my "no early adopting rule" to upgrade my E8400 to a 2500K when I had some
time off work at the end of January. I thought I was preparing for the release of
rF2 and CoD. Instead all I got was a free opportunity to disassemble my PC and go
through the RMA process eventually.

That'll teach me.

Bad Mobo? Asus did that to me with a few upgrades. Mainboards were DOA.
At least they got the replacements to me in a couple days via overnight
shipping... :\

By the way.... whats "rF2"?

All the first generation Sandy Bridge boards are flawed. It'll cost Intel about 700
million apparently. :-) It's "only" a problem with some of the SATA ports, but it's
not really something you want hanging over your head throughout the boards's
lifetime.

Normally I'd wait at least 6 months for a new hardware iteration to prove itself,
but a nasty combination of money in bank, time off work, and superb early reviews
conspired against me. :-)

Sorry, I'm up to my eyeballs in racing sims these days and tend to forget not
everybody shares this illness. rFactor2 is the latest piece of software to bear the
burden of being the "great white hope" for sim racing (for those who don't enjoy
the annoyingly restrictive but potentially super-satisfying iRacing).

Obviously it will get knocked out in the first round when it proves to be made by
mere mortals. But half the fun of any new release is the disappointment, right? I'm
sure Oleg won't disappoint us by not giving us a few things to be disappointed by
either. :-)

Ahhh yes, heard about that on the news. I thought it was CPUs.

Oh yeah. I tried out the original rFactor a while back when I heard about some
sort of Hydroplane racing thing for it. Never could get it to work. I was pretty
stoked about a Hydro Racing Sim, I always loved Hydro racing on Lake Washington
here since I was a kid in the 60s and have been dying for a Hydro racing Sim
ever since I got into comuters. Just could not get rFactor to work at all, it
just didn't do anything, I was pretty bummed, then just gave up on it. :/

Just built a system on a Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3 and she runs flawlessly
at 4.0Gz with aa i7-2600K Sandy Bridge.

Been a week, hopefully it will continue to hum along..

Just read on Gigabytes site that they will replace all Intel Series 6
mobos at no cost to the consumer. I'll wait and see how they plan on
doing it.

The only failures have been down to people overdoing the overclocking & voltages,
rather than the Intel fault. So there's no reason why it shouldn't run forever. And
most boards have enough 6Gb/s ports (4) that it's possible to avoid the potentially
flawed ports altogether and ignore the recall.

But it'll be hard to ignore potential trouble ahead, and there's a good chance that
the replacement boards will be a little better than the rev.1 boards in other ways.
So we'd be daft to ignore the recall, no matter how much hassle it is to rebuild.

I'm not looking forward to it though. The 1155 sockets are a scary as hell when
you're pulling the lever down.

PS It's a good time to be buying a CPU though. The drop off in demand since the
motherboard error was announced has pushed prices down nicely.

Not sure if you've been building rigs since the 286/386/486 days
but slamming those puppies in a socket was no picnic either. I bent
more than a few pins in my day. I'll go with the levers any day.
